So, here it is. Back to basics.

No more fancy artwork.

Bristol

Hello

Went for a facial today. The two pang-seh kias ah Siah and Khen abandoned me and left me to fend for myself against evil beautician lady and her merciless needle.Haha. Preparing for the worst while going in, I finally walked out of the skin centre feeling slightly disappointed and confused due to the absence of excruciating and tear-inducing Pain, who had always been my faithful companion to such places. Truth is, I even managed to doze off for quite a bit while Kelly ( I didn't ask her, she told me voluntarily ) embarked on an hour-long session of applying masks and ridding my skin of blackheads/whiteheads (Kelly told me there's a difference). She even gave me a compliment by telling me how clean my face was. Imagine that ! Well, that went well....

Anyway, I have finally made up my mind. The answer is : University of Bristol. Sorry to say, but I am still an avid fan of University world rankings. Called them up ( 12 midnight, local time ) and settled everything. Ho ho ho, Bristol Law School, here I come! Bye bye Nottingham....bye bye.

Will be flying off to KK this weekend to meet up with Mei. Her finals are coming and I have to be there to help her prepare ( foodwise, too ).

and I am STILL waiting for my pay cheque. Last warning, LADY. If I dont receive anything by tomorrow, I am going to physically destroy you.

ROAR.

Yo

Met up with Joanne for lunch ( Japanese again ). I've been to this place at least 3 times this month, guess that makes me a regular, but am STILL too lazy to apply for their membership card. Sien. Had a brief but fun catching up session. Covered a lot of crap, including debate sessions, her life so far in UK and Smelly Yau. Haha. Must bring me to all the hot spots in London when I come down south during hols!!

Finally managed to cover 5km (run) on the treadmill today after a long long long long time. Congrats to me!!

Me want go Bukit Tinggi! Arghh! But definitely won't be able to make the trip this time round. Sorry guys. I know it'll be less fun without me..*shrugs*..too bad! Haha. just kidding. Y'all enjoy yourselves even though the happening factor's gone!

and I'm still waiting for my pay cheque. *Sigh.

Random

Hmmm.....what did I do today? Woke up at 7. SEVEN! IN THE MORNING! That, to me, is an amazing feat since I have not been able to drag myself out of bed that early since God-Knows-When.

Anyways, paid a visit to my grandfather's grave today. ( I know it's supposed to be last week and all, but my aunt said its too packed then, so here we are going up the mountain a week later).

Afternoon. Met up with Derek ( family friend ), who's back from Hong Kong. Did a bit gym, swimming, and waited like forever before we finally managed to 'ba' the pool table. Damn those kids! Derek taught me the basic techniques. FYI, this is not my first time playing but I'm still not gonna reveal how I fared in that one game we had. Sorry man, promise will practise hard before challenging you to another round. Hahaha.

Pizza pizza pizza for dinner. Still hungry now.....sien. Think I'll go make myself some supper.

Till next time!

Cheers,

TIMOthy

I did not write this myself. Was reading up on Malaysia's new cabinet staff and I came across this

My new phone

I'm feeling much better! Went to the gym today, only did half of my usual sets though...just to make sure history doesn't repeat itself ( vasovagal attack...damn you! ).

Anyways, the highlight of my day ( yesterday, actually ). Remember the three little kids that I was giving personal tuition to for free? Well, their mom ( being the most hak hei and nice person that she is ) felt bad that I was not getting my usual RM20 per hour paycheck (WTF?). So, she gave me a present. Guess what is it?
*Rolling of drums*............................................. a China mobile phone. OK, I know many of you will be thinking "Ha! Safe or not one oh..hazardous?" & "you sure its a phone ah, not a toy meh? can ring?" HELLO! Chill, people! It is A PHONE. Here's a personal review.

Appearance-wise..hmmmm, how do I put it? Think Nokia+Sony Erricson dunno what model. I can't really describe it, the buttons are like a Prism's and the back too. The ultimate eye-sore? A miniature Sony Vaio logo plastered on the back of the phone. What the fuck is a "vaio" doing there? The thing about China's new products is this: Why do you ALWAYS have to engrave/embed THE LOGO of established goods onto/into your own products? Does that make it look more expensive? NO!!!! The part about copying technology, functions..I get that since it is THE fastest way to catch up (Think Japanese products post World-War 2...look at them now). But why do you have to copy the brand name and the design?! WHY? HUH!! OMG,there's no need for you to follow their designs. Just come up with something simple but original.

Functions? I am really satisfied. Haha, it has iTouch techology ( the "slide to unlock" part..Lol) and it is everything from a mobile TV to a music player to a phone. They are really really good at reverse technology ( This, you have to give it to them ).

Overall, I'm ok with it, would be happier if the design department started doing its job though( It doesn't have to be sophisticated what, just keep it plain and simple). Haiyo...anyways I am now an OFFICIAL China hp user(for at least a few months)!!! WOO-HOO!!! Let's see how long this one lasts me.....thanks for the present aunty. It is a reeaaally fun toy to play with!

Cheers,
TIMOthy

(p.s. the model no. is THL A5000....try googling it! LMAO! )

"An injured lion wants to know if he can still roar....It's about dignity and self-esteem, which isn't quite the same as vanity"
-Randy Pausch, in his book The last Lecture

Vanity:The quality of being unimportant, especially compared with other things that are important.
Dignity: A sense of your own importance and value.

Great recommendation, Siah. Food for thought: 'Vanity of human ambition in the face of death' OR 'Dignity of human ambition in the face of death'? Normally, people would go for the first one right? Not this terminally-illed lecturer though. He went ahead to have this last lecture, well aware that this would seep into his precious few months left to spend time with his family. The author said it was important to conduct the lecture,to video it, then to leave a 'legacy' to his children, who might not even be able to remember him since they're so young. Does that constitute as human ambition? My personal answer would be yes, definitely. This journey was important to him ( for his pride, self-esteem, his childrens perception of him in the future), so much so that he successfully forced Death into the backseat and finished his final car race, hence achieving his goal in life.

Now here's the difficult part. When we hear the word 'Dignity', we think respect, honour, pride. Am I right? Vanity, on the other hand, projects a more negative view on a person/thing, most often related to words like "trivial" and "shallow". So what IS important in life? Illustration: A science teacher spends an hour in the bathroom just to apply skin care products on his/her face. Immediate reaction? Wahlao eh, stupid bimbo, what she doin in there, vain sia. Same case, only this time replace the engineer with Maggie Q. Reaction? Eh, she got take good care of her skin or not? like very pale ler...

I'm not generalising nor am I pointing fingers here but in such cases, appearance does not seem to give a lot of credit to the poor teacher since they pride themselves on knowledge, whereas it is of UTMOST importance that a public figure fulfills the standard set by the viewing public as to whether she's 'glam or not'.Level of importance, on the other hand, may differ for each individual.

Goals in life=Top uni, High income job, stable family. Human ambitions?Yes. Socially-acceptable?Yup! Definitely not considered vain. Luxury yachts, country club memberships, houte couture. Unacceptable? Doesn't bode well with the social norm? You'll live if you don't have them?I'm wasting money living this kind of lifestyle.Instead, why not try...I must work hard to maintain this kind of lifestyle. Read up 'progress' and 'civilization'.

As the author puts it, THAT(the last lecture) is what is important to him. THAT, to him, is self-esteem, not vanity. If you live your life kow-towing to all these social rigidities, you're gonna jump off a cliff sooner or later. Trust me.

Cheers,
TIMOthy
